Virginia Tech Sigma Nu

Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA. Sigma Nu currently has 166 active chapters and colonies on college campuses throughout the United States, and has initiated over 235,000 members since its founding. For more information about Sigma Nu nationally, visit The Sigma Nu National Website.

Sigma Nu Fraternity is a group of  men committed to the values of Love, Honor, and Truth. At Virginia Tech, we have embodied the spirit of Ut Prosim for nearly 50 years. Sigma Nu was founded as a non-hazing fraternity and remains committed to that value. Our chapter has never had its charter revoked since our establishment at Tech in 1970.

Our fraternity house is located at 401 Progress street NE. It is in downtown Blacksburg and just five minutes away from campus. Sigma Nu fraternity can provide its brothers with many opportunities ranging from service opportunities and academic assistance to interpersonal relationships and social experiences. Education is very important to Sigma Nu, and we encourage our brothers to use each other as academic resources for studying and useful advice. Our chapter currently has 50 brothers; our manageable size allows our brothers to really get to know the whole fraternity. At Sigma Nu, our fraternal relationships continue past college; we have a strong alumni base and many of our alumni frequently return for alumni events, house touch-ups, and football games. If you would like to know more about what Sigma Nu has to provide, check out our Rush page.

Please feel free to Contact Us if you have any questions about our fraternity (How to get involved, questions about what being a Sigma Nu entails, concerns…).

Sigma Nu fraternity was founded as a non-hazing fraternity. The mentality of hazing strongly conflicts with the ideals of Sigma Nu. Our fraternity does not support or practice forced drinking, PT, or other form of hazing, as hazing is counterproductive and ineffective at creating a strong brotherhood. Sigma Nu participates in many anti-hazing programs, including national hazing prevention week. To learn more about what Sigma Nu is doing to eliminate hazing, visit our Sigma Nu National Website.

Why Sigma Nu?

Sigma Nu is an Honor fraternity. We are a fraternity, not a club, for men, not boys, based upon the Honor Principle, not expediency and situational ethics.

So what can Sigma Nu do for you? The true answer is: you will get out of it what you put into it. For those who strive, Sigma Nu can:

  • Develop lifelong friendships and brotherhood.
  • Build a worldwide network of Sigma Nu connections.
  • Teach valuable business, interpersonal and social skills.
  • Develop leadership abilities and confidence.
  • Provide opportunities to give back to the community.
  • Help you become the best version of you.

Sigma Nu can give you a chance to get the most out of college. To leave a legacy. We are here to build a Rock Chapter: one of the top fraternity chapters across the country.

Imagine being a part of something great. Something remarkable. The top leaders, social gentlemen, involved on campus, high academics, strong athletics, recruiting the best men on campus, and most importantly, a high sense of Honor.

The premier men’s organization on campus.

A genuine fraternity experience.

Built by you.
